Accounting Assistant


PAY RANGE: $18.51 - $26.30 per hour

Child Development Services is seeking an Accounting Assistant for its State Office in Augusta. This is a 40-hour per week, calendar year position, housed at the Department of Education offices. 

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:          

Child Development Services is composed of ten principal sites throughout Maine with several satellite offices. The CDS Fiscal Department is responsible for preparation of the annual & bi-annual budget and provides support to regional site directors in creating their annual budget.  Additionally, CDS Fiscal Department conducts full accounting functions, generates monthly financial reports, and facilitates the annual external audit.

The Accounting Assistant works as part of the fiscal team within the organization, analyzing and interpreting numerical data and performing basic financial tasks and analysis. The position works closely with the Finance Manager to ensure accuracy of the site and organization financials.

REPRESENTATIVE TASKS include, but are not limited to:

  • Post monthly transactions
  • Perform account reconciliations
  • Perform bank reconciliations
  • Prepare accurate reports within established guidelines to support management.
  • Prepare Financial Statements with analysis.
  • Assist Finance Manager and sites with budgeting process.
  • Assist Finance Manager with other financial tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1-3 years of accounting experience.
  • Proficient in excel and other Microsoft products.
  • Attention to Detail and Team Player.
  • Effective Communication skills.
