POSITION:            Special Education Coordinator (Grades 9-12)

LOCATION:            Mt. Ararat High School                                                                                  

CLOSING DATE:    Open Until Filled

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Serves as the leader of the department of Special Education at Mt. Ararat High School, championing the maintenance and development of schoolwide systems and approaches to support inclusion and the least restrictive environment for all special education students.
  • Guides the maintenance and development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) at Mt. Ararat High School, as well as in support of students entering from Ararat Middle School and transferring from other high schools. Serves as administrator in IEP Team meetings.
  • Coordinates special education referral, assessment, and programming in accordance with the district’s special education policy and procedure manual, and at the direction of the Director of Special Services.
  • Supports the delivery of professional learning opportunities for all staff at Mt. Ararat High School in support of the delivery of IEP services for students.
  • Assists the Building Principal with the supervision and evaluation of probationary and continuing contract special education personnel.
  • Collaborates with the building principal and assistant principals to implement appropriate behavioral interventions for special education students, including through the development and implementation of Positive Behavioral Support Plans, as well as school-based consequences.
  • Monitors special education documentation, record-keeping, and communications to assure compliance with state regulations and district policies.
  • Facilitates the necessary communication and programmatic linkages with adult education, alternative education, vocational education, and regular education personnel to address student programming needs.
  • Communicates with administrative and district office staff regarding necessary census, finance, personnel and program data.
  • Prepares and delivers reports, plans and program descriptions as requested by school and district
  • Actively engages in professional development activities through coursework, workshops and involvement in professional organizations.
  • Other duties, as assigned by the MSAD #75 Director of Special Services and Ararat High School Principal.

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Appropriate Maine State Certification (035 - Assistant Administrator of Special Education)
  • Minimum of Five Years of Experience Relevant to the Position
  • Master’s Degree in Education or Other Relevant Field
  • Demonstrated Leadership in educational
  • Excellent organizational skills, as well as the ability to skillfully manage time and
  • Skilled in the use of technology and knowledge of information
  • Professional manner and collaboration
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, students, district staff, parents and community members.
