Hebron Academy is seeking dedicated, dynamic, and experienced coaches for its Athletic program for the 2024/2025 academic year. Successful candidates will possess a strong athletics background with an ability to provide leadership and direction to student-athletes, inspiring and motivating them to perform at high levels. The ideal candidates will demonstrate a sincere interest in the social, emotional, academic and athletic development of student-athletes, understanding the highest priority is the health, safety and welfare of students.  Ideally, you will also fill another role at our boarding school. Our beautiful school is located in western Maine on a 1500-acre campus with trails, ponds, and mountains. Who are you?

You are an enthusiastic person who is passionate about athletics and interested in working with adolescents in a residential school environment. You describe yourself as a proactive leader with a particular passion for supporting students in their personal and athletic development. You possess a high degree of modern sport specific knowledge including individual skills, techniques and approaches.  You have demonstrated ability to teach skills in a progression, employing effective drills and strategies that ensure development and activity among all participants. You are excited by the challenge of coaching a new team, comprised of athletes of various skill level, creating and nurturing a positive team culture thereby ensuring that the athletic program contributes to the achievement of our school mission. You seek a deeply relational and intentionally small community where you will be encouraged and supported to bring your full self to all aspects of your work.

  • College degree
  • Strong character and commitment with a leader mindset
  • Desire to embrace all facets of boarding school life with a positive and collaborative demeanor
  • Possess a strong professional network and in general coaching circles along with the desire and capacity to further develop and broaden that network

What would you do?

  • Create and develop a strong team culture and teach to the core values of the Athletic Department
  • Assist in the development of a long-term program vision, plan, and curriculum for the program
  • Display leadership and professional behavior and communication in dealing with student-athletes, parents, staff and administrators
  • Develop strong working relationships with assistant coach/es, mentoring when necessary
  • Tryout and roster management, game-day operations, scheduling, score reporting, transportation, management of staff and student-managers, distribution and collection of uniforms, communication with internal and external constituents
  • Exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical behavior with adherence to MAISAD, NEPSAC, and Department of Athletics rules and regulations
  • Support the mission of the School and the Athletic Department, while positively and effectively leading the student-athletes and managers
  • Support admissions and recruiting process of suitable student athletes including collaborating with other Hebron Academy coaches to help identify and yield multi-sport athletes
  • Performs related duties assigned.
