Spring Harbor Academy provides a full-day special education program for students receiving in-patient services on Spring Harbor Hospital’s Developmental Disorders Unit. The curriculum is designed to incorporate and target the learning needs of students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Asperger’s Disorder, Pervasive Developmental Disorder and/or Mental Retardation. Students are dually-diagnosed with psychiatric disorders.
Services to be provided will include individualized special education instruction to meet the academic goals and objectives outlined in the students’ Individualized Education Plan and in the Maine Learning Results. A positive behavioral support plan designed and approved by a licensed doctoral-level psychologist will be the cornerstone of the school’s instruction.
Spring Harbor Hospital is seeking Ed Tech II Full Time candidates to join our multidisciplinary team working in our exciting new inpatient based, year-round school program. The Ed Tech II will work in collaboration with the Teacher to reinforce new learning, provide short-term instruction in small groups or one on one. This position requires the use of therapeutic restraints, assisting students with toilet activities, supporting students in school/community activities (including swimming) and sometimes wearing protective equipment and cleaning up bodily fluids.
- Minimum 1 year working with children or youth with developmental disorders, mental health disorders, and/or behavioral problems in a school, hospital or residential setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide education and care to student-patients throughout the formative years (ages 5 – 21) with consideration of the aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns.
- Maine DOE Education Technician II authorization (Applications for this authorization are made to the Maine Department of Education Certification office and typically require a minimum of 60 credits of approved study in an educationally-related field.)
