Falmouth Elementary School seeks a dynamic and innovative full-time K-2 Special Education Functional Life Skills Teacher with relevant experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide specialized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs, ensuring they receive an inclusive, equitable, and high-quality education. This role involves collaborating with general education teachers, parents, and other support staff to create a positive and effective learning environment.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with complex support needs.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district regulations regarding special education.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records.
- Provide students with direct instruction in functional and academic skills using evidence-based practices.
- Design and implement lesson plans that meet the diverse needs of students.
- Implement and monitor positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) in the classroom.
- Collaborate with school psychologists, related service providers, behavior specialists, and other school staff to address student needs.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, IEP meetings, and parent-teacher conferences.
- Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and external agencies.
- Maintain regular and effective communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress and needs.
- Provide updates and reports on student progress to relevant stakeholders.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive environment for students, staff, and families.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and staff meetings.
- Conduct formal and informal assessments to monitor student progress.
- Use data to inform instruction and adjust IEPs and teaching strategies.
Qualifications:
- Must hold (or be eligible to hold) the required certification 282 Teacher of Students with Disabilities Grades K-8.
- Additional certification in reading programs is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in using technology and adaptive tools to support student learning.
- Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt teaching methods to meet diverse student needs.
