Ed Tech III - Forestry and Logging Specialist

Job Goal(s): Foster Career and Education Center is seeking an experienced and dedicated Ed Tech III – Forestry and Logging Specialist to support and enhance the delivery of technical education in the field of forestry and logging. This role involves working closely with instructors, students, and the forestry and logging program to provide technical support, hands-on training, and guidance in forestry practices, logging operations, and equipment management. The ideal candidate will possess both practical knowledge of forestry/logging and experience working within an educational environment.
 

Certifications Prefered:

  • Certification in CLP or NESLP
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • OSHA 10/30 certification
  • Ed Tech III Certification - Required
Performance Responsibilities
  • Instructional Support: Assist in the delivery of forestry and logging training courses by preparing instructional materials, setting up training equipment, and providing hands-on support to students during fieldwork and lab exercises.
  • Field Training: Supervise and guide students during field exercises, ensuring safety protocols are followed while providing practical instruction in logging operations, tree identification, forest management techniques, and chainsaw safety.
  • Equipment Management: Maintain and manage forestry and logging equipment, including chainsaws, skid steers, feller bunchers, and other specialized tools, ensuring they are in proper working condition.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure that all students follow industry-standard safety practices, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to OSHA and industry safety guidelines.
  • Technical Assistance: Provide technical assistance to instructors in the development of training programs and curriculum updates to ensure they reflect current industry practices and technologies.
  • Student Support: Offer individualized support to students by answering questions, providing additional resources, and offering guidance on coursework and practical skills.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of student progress, safety assessments, grades,  and equipment inspections. Assist with the preparation of reports related to training activities and program outcomes.
  • Collaboration: Work in close coordination with other Ed Tech staff, instructors, Administration, Advisory Board, and department heads to ensure smooth program delivery and student success.
  • Professional Development: Stay updated on the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in forestry and logging to continuously improve the quality of education and training offered to students.

Education

  • Strong understanding of logging operations, forest management, and the use of forestry equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety standards, including OSHA regulations, and Certified logging standards related to forestry and logging.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to students with varying levels of experience.
  • Experience with chainsaw operation, tree felling, Product utilization, BMP’s and forest inventory techniques.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain forestry and logging equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.

  • 2 years prefered

  • 179 days - School Year Schedule
  • 7:30 - 2:45* 
  • Monday - Friday
Working Conditions
  • This position may require work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including but not limited to heat, cold, rain, and snow.
  • Physical demands include the ability to lift heavy equipment, stand for extended periods, and work in physically demanding environments.
  • Some travel may be required for field training and events.

 Reports To: FCTEC Director

Terms of Employment:  As determined annually by the District.

Evaluation: Completed annually the Director or their designee.

FLSA Status: Exempt
