Transportation Manager

Position Overview

Status: Exempt

Reports to: Director of Operations

The Transportation Manager at Kents Hill School is charged with overseeing both the safety and the efficiency of the school’s fleet of vehicles. This position requires: an excellent working knowledge of vehicle mechanics; excellent attention to detail in order to keep all vehicles in excellent working order, and in compliance with local and state requirements; the ability to manage seamlessly the logistics of  fleet management amidst the busy life of a residential school; finally, the ability to collaborate with flexibility and good humor with both staff and students in order to meet their transportation needs. In doing all of the above, Kents Hill’s Transportation Manager plays a critical role in supporting the life of the school.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain all vehicles, ensuring that vehicles are properly maintained. 

  • Maintain up-to-date records and registrations on the school’s fleet. 

  • Ensure efficient use of the school’s fleet of vehicles, to maximize efficiency and longevity of the school’s resources.

  • Partner with the school’s Director of Operations and Chief Financial Officer to plan for cost-effective long-term management of the school’s fleet.

  • Work in conjunction with school program directors to provide appropriate student  transportation needs, including management and assignment of staff drivers.
  • Oversee safety training and records checks for staff drivers.
  • Provide daily transportation services to the school, as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualified candidates will possess the following essential attributes.

  • Ability to maintain and operate motor vehicles.
  • Ability to work with students and adults in a dynamic and fast-paced school environment.
  • Understanding of the logistics of scheduling and fleet management.
  • Attention to detail in maintaining all relevant records and registrations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to navigate change, handle stress, and resolve challenges effectively.
