Assistant Professor of Nursing - Tenure Track - Fall 2025
UMA's Nursing Program invites applications for a full-time, academic year, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Nursing position. UMA has a holistic RN-BSN program that has AHNCC endorsement and is admitting students to the pre-licensure option concept-based curriculum which emphasizes caring science. We seek candidates who demonstrate:

Responsibilities Include: Teaching didactic and clinical courses in the BSN pre-licensure and RN-BSN program options in both traditional classrooms and online; conducting scholarly activities in the field of expertise; advising students academically; and participating in service to the department, college, and university, including curriculum development and assessment, professional development, and committee assignments. Travel to off-campus locaitons may be required for teaching assignments and student support.
As a full-time faculty member, you will be expected to:
- Prepare course syllabi, develop courses online in Brightspace, and create assessments of learning.
- Offer courses in a variety of different modalities including in person, live online/distance synchronous, as well as asynchronous.
- Support students in their learning and connect them to UMA resources as needed.
- Advise students in the major.
- Teach four classes each semester (fall & spring/total 24 credits), with opportunities to teach additional classes in the summer.
- Participate in program meetings, UMA committees, community service and collaborate with peers across the University of Maine System (UMS).
UMA faculty are expected to be excellent teachers, responsive to changing professional needs, committed to innovative delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning, committed to effective use of technology including distance learning, involved in scholarly activities as appropriate to the appointment, and to provide service to the community, college, and university.
UMA serves a mix of traditional and non-traditional students and offers a wide array of liberal arts and professional programs leading to certificates, associate, baccalaureate, and master's degrees. Programs are delivered on campus and using a network of university centers and sites across the state and internationally. The University offers general education and degree-specific courses using in-person, hyflex, distance synchronous, and online instruction. The successful candidate will be active in university service through student advising, curriculum development, committee activity, and community outreach. Duties of the position may also include supporting the university's early college programming.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Current licensure as an RN in the State of Maine, or eligibility for Maine licensure
- A Master of Science degree in Nursing
- Three or more years of teaching at the college level
- Clinical practice within the past five years in area of expertise
- The ability to teach effectively at both the pre-licensure and RN-BSN levels, as needed
- Teaching duties for tenure-track faculty are 12 credit hours per semester. Theory and clinical teaching assignments across both tracks in the program may be part of the teaching duties assigned
- Experience with curriculum development and evaluation
- Teaching that includes the use of new technologies and delivery systems, experience teaching student at a distance
Preferred:
- Ph.D. or other doctoral degrees in nursing or a closely related field (Completion of a doctoral degree is required for the awarding of tenure.)
- National certification as an Advanced Holistic Nurse (AHNCC), or willingness to seek certification
- Teaching experience within a concept-based curriculum with an emphasis on caring science
- Experience in teaching in simulation and online environments
- ACEN accreditation experience is highly preferred
Salary: The normal hiring range is $57k - $60k for a tenure-track position without a terminal degree, commensurate with qualifications and previous experience, in accordance with the AFUM contract.
