Position: MMS Girls OutdoorTrack Coach 

Department: Athletic

Reports To: Massabesic Activities Director and school Principal

Qualifications:

  1. Has knowledge and background in the sport

  2. Meets RSU 57 eligibility requirements:

    • First Aid Training

    • CPR Training

    • Concussion Management Course

    • Heat & Acclimatization Course

    • RSU 57 Background Check

    • Maine Department of Education Criminal History Record Check
      Requirements must be met when specified
      Position Summary:

  1. Instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success

  2. Plans all team activities in accordance with RSU 57 Policy.

  3. Plans all practices and games.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Thorough knowledge of all local and state athletic policies

  2. Implement policies as required

  3. Attend all required meetings set by school and MPA

  4. Emphasize the importance of academics, sportsmanship, and citizenship as part of the athletic philosophy

  5. Maintain high standards for athletes’ performance and conduct

  6. Model standards of conduct in own behavior

  7. Dress appropriately at practices and games

  8. Knowledge of sport

  9. Knowledge of training and conditioning techniques

  10. Seek opportunities to learn and employ new techniques and ideas

  11. Teach skills that are appropriate and safe for the individual athlete

  12. Supervise athletes at all times

  13. Maintain, inventory, properly store and care for equipment

  14. Check equipment and facilities for safety

  15. Assist in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled events or practices as necessary

  16. Create and enforce appropriate team rules

  17. Knowledge and use of appropriate emergency/injury response skills

  18. Encourage leadership of athletes on and off the field

  19. Communicate with parents promptly and appropriately

  20. Participate in pre-season informational meetings with parents and athletes

  21. Interact with game officials effectively and appropriately

  22. Model excellent sportsmanship at all times

  23. Meet deadlines for paperwork and other related duties

24. Maintain paperwork/records of athletes as required

25. Perform other duties that may be assigned by the head coach, athletic director or principal

Language and Communication Skills:

  1. Ability to read and interpret documents pertinent to position, i.e. athletic policy manuals, handbooks, and state guidelines.

  2. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and correctly, in speech and writing, to parents, coaches, and athletes.

  3. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, athletes, coaching staff, and the community

Mathematical Skills:

1. Understanding of budgeting and accounting practices

Physical Demands:

While performing the essential duties of the position, the employee is continuously required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. The employee will frequently use demonstration techniques while coaching that require physical activity, such as running, jumping, throwing, catching, swinging an implement, and general body movement. The employee will need to carry items that may be heavy (in excess of 20 pounds). The employee will occasionally need to sit for long periods of time, and frequently travel by bus. The position may require the employee to work extended hours to meet the demands of the position.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally will be excessive. Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
