The University of Maine at Augusta invites applications for a tenure track Public Admin/Business Admin faculty member, beginning fall 2025. The successful candidate will have experience teaching a wide range of public admin and business courses.

The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to teaching in multiple modalities and working with students one-on-one. This position will be based on UMA's Augusta/Bangor campus. Duties of the position may include teaching UMA students in:

  • Public Administration: American government, state & local government, e-government, public budgeting & financial analysis, municipal admin, constitutional law, admin law, American health care systems, and research in public management.
  • Business Management: small business management, management information systems, managerial analytics, labor-management relations, marketing, Excel business applications, financial services, business law, international business and economics.

As a full-time faculty member, you will be expected to:

  • Prepare course syllabi, develop courses online in Brightspace, and create assessments of learning
  • Offer courses in a variety of different modalities including in person, live online/distance synchronous, as well as asynchronous
  • Support students in their learning and connect them to UMA resources as needed
  • Advise students in the major
  • Teach four classes each semester (fall & spring/total 24 credits), with opportunities to teach additional classes in the summer
  • Participate in program meetings, UMA committees, community service and collaborate with peers across the University of Maine System (UMS)

UMA faculty are expected to be excellent teachers, responsive to changing professional needs, committed to innovative delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning, committed to effective use of technology including distance learning, involved in scholarly activities as appropriate to the appointment, and to provide service to the community, college, and university.

UMA serves a mix of traditional and non-traditional students and offers a wide array of liberal arts and professional programs leading to certificates, associate, baccalaureate, and master's degrees. Programs are delivered on campus and using a network of University centers and sites across the state and internationally. The University offers general education and degree-specific courses using in-person, hyflex, distance synchronous, and online instruction. The successful candidate will be active in university service through student advising, curriculum development, committee activity, and community outreach.
 

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Doctoral Degree: DBA or PhD in a public administration or business-related field; applicant may be enrolled in a doctorate program, but must have earned the degree before receiving tenure
  • Minimum of 2 academic years of experience teaching public admin and/or business management courses at the college level
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of office software applications 

Preferred:

  • Work experience in the public admin and/or management field
  • Experience with distance education modalities (Brightspace, Zoom)

Salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and previous experience, in accordance with the AFUM contract. The normal hiring range is mid-upper 60's.
