Kittery Adult and Community Education is seeking an ESOL instructor. The hours are variable based on enrollment 5-10 hours a week providing individual and small class instruction for our Multilingual Learners.
Responsibilities:
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for small group instruction in English for skill development, TOEFL test preparation, college /career preparation, and citizenship courses
- Employ evidence-based instructional practices and academic standards to plan, develop and/or select lesson plans, activities, and curricula
- Assess individual needs using initial assessments and classroom observations
- Participate in staff meetings, state and local professional development
- Collaborate with Student Advisor, Navigator, Directors and Teachers to support to Individual Learning Plans
- Manage in person and remote classrooms with varying abilities.
Requirements:
- Shows understanding of the language acquisition process, adult learning principles and use of print and digital curriculum.
- Sensitive to cultural backgrounds and identities
- Ability to support translation tools for clear communication and translanguaging practices
- The ideal candidates for this position may have TEFL/TOEFL certification is an internationally recognized professional credential that certifies that an individual is qualified to teach English as a foreign language.
- Skills in using a digital classroom and web-based learning platforms is valued
- The candidate must be able to pass a background test through the State of Maine Education Department.
