POSITION TYPE AND STATUS:
Special Education Teacher, 1 FTE

Located a ½ mile from the Atlantic Ocean and 15 minutes from Portland, Jameson Elementary School is a 175 student, grades PreK-2 school, seeking a full-time special education teacher for students with emotional and behavioral needs. Our chosen candidate will work as part of a team of professionals comitted to providing quality programming for students in need of emotional and behavioral supports. They will have access to training and ongoing support, as well as regular consultation with district special education staff. The successful candidate should possess the following:

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Maine DOE Certification in Special Education #282 (PreK and K-8 preferred)
  • Valid DOE Criminal History Records Check (CHRC)


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide direct instruction in all academic subject areas, including social/emotional and/or executive skill development
  • Fulfill case management duties, including paperwork and consultation with classroom teachers
  • Develop and implement Positive Behavior Support plans
  • Consult with team members, including parents, to provide appropriate programming
  • Complete progress monitoring of all students on a scheduled basis
  • Conduct academic evaluations and classroom observations
  • Supervise Educational Technicians

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of Maine Special Education Regulations
  • Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and share best practices
  • Excellent communication with parents, teachers, administrators, community leaders and other stakeholders to promote and support student success
  • Demonstrated ability of understanding and supporting the academic, social, and emotional needs of school students with varying needs
  • Interest in participating in the school community outside of the classroom
  • Exemplary time management and organizational skills
