Early Education Teacher

Seeking a full-time or part-time teacher (will consider part-time of at least 20 hours/week) to work in the Islesboro Preschool pre-K and infant/toddler classrooms. The ideal candidate should possess a strong passion for education and maintain effective, respectful working relationships with children, parents, and IPS staff. The position reports to the Executive Director. 

 The time commitment is up to 40 hours per week from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., full year with the potential for flexibility based on staffing needs.

 Responsibilities will include:

• Assist the Lead Teachers in maintaining a safe and clean learning environment to assure the well-being and safety of the children in the program.
• Actively participate with children to manage and encourage positive play experiences.
• Maintain a cooperative, positive, calm attitude and encourage that attitude and voice in others.
• Assist Lead Teachers in preparing for and implementing activities.
• Accompany group on all out-of-building excursions.
• Assist with flexible nap schedules and diapering.
• Prepare and clean up daily snacks and lunch.
• Assist with cleaning procedures in the classroom.
• Check and complete that the playground equipment is properly put away. 

Requirements:

• Minimum 18 years of age
• Ideally, have some experience with childcare and/or pre-K/elementary education.
• Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing
• Be able and motivated to be actively engaged with infants and young children
• Clear a background check as required by the State of Maine

Start date: Flexible

Compensation: Full-Time Salary 30-35K, pay commensurate with experience. Hourly $20.00, 6K town health care subsidy if full time. PTO: 14 days in addition to all school vacations and holidays.
