Description

Falmouth Elementary School seeks an experienced, dynamic and innovative full-time K-2 Functional Life Skills Teacher to join our Special Education team for the 2024-2025 school year only. The ideal candidate will provide specialized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs, ensuring they receive an inclusive, equitable, and high-quality education. This role involves collaborating with general education teachers, parents, and other support staff to create a positive and effective learning environment.

Responsibilities:

Case Management: 

  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with social-emotional and academic needs.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district regulations regarding special education.

  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records. 


Instruction: 

  • Provide students with direct instruction in social-emotional and academic skills using evidence-based practices.

  • Design and implement lesson plans that meet the diverse needs of students.

  • Utilize various instructional strategies to promote student engagement and learning. 


Behavioral Support: 

  • Implement and monitor positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) in the classroom.

  • Collaborate with school psychologists, counselors, and behavior specialists to address student needs. 


Collaboration: 

  • Work closely with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and other support staff to meet students' needs in inclusive settings.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, IEP meetings, and parent-teacher conferences.

  • Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and external agencies. 


Communication: 

  • Maintain regular and effective communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress and needs.

  • Provide updates and reports on student progress to relevant stakeholders.

  • Foster a collaborative and supportive environment for students, staff, and families. 


Professional Development: 

  • Stay current with best practices in special education, social-emotional learning, and academic instruction.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities and staff meetings.

  • Mentor and support new special education teachers and staff as needed. 


Assessment and Evaluation: 

  • Conduct formal and informal assessments to monitor student progress.

  • Use data to inform instruction and adjust IEPs and teaching strategies.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and supports. 


Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education.

  • Valid state teaching license with a special education endorsement.

  • Additional certification in reading programs is a plus.

  • Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in using technology and adaptive tools to support student learning.

  • Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt teaching methods to meet diverse student needs.

  • Must hold (or be eligible to hold) the required certification 282 Teacher of Students with Disabilities Grades K-8.
