Special Services Preschool Physical Therapist

 

As an Early Childhood Physical Therapist, you will work with preschool children ages 3-4 to develop essential skills for learning and daily functioning. You will provide specialized therapeutic intervention to help our youngest learners reach developmental milestones and maximize their potential in both school and community settings.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Candidates must hold a current physical therapy license in the state of Maine and possess a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from an accredited program. 
  • Experience working with children is preferred, along with knowledge of early childhood development and sensory integration techniques. 
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in educational settings and/or with special needs populations, familiarity with Part C Early Intervention and school-based services, and a strong understanding of state and federal special education regulations.

 

Reports to: Director of Special Education and Preschool Special Services Program Coordinator

 

Responsibilities:

 

Student Focused

  • Conduct developmentally appropriate evaluations to determine if preschool children require physical therapy services
  • Participate in IEP, IFSP, and Section 504 Team meetings for preschool children referred for or receiving physical therapy services
  • Create engaging, play-based therapy sessions appropriate for 3-4 year old developmental levels
  • Schedule and provide direct therapy services in various settings (classroom, playground, community)
  • Coordinate with preschool teachers, families, and medical providers to implement effective strategies for children receiving indirect therapy services
  • Maintain detailed documentation of child progress for annual reviews and evaluations
  • Develop age-appropriate goals and objectives for Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs)
  • Conduct home visits and community-based interventions as needed to support functioning across environments

 

Terms of Employment: Salary based on the current KAKEA Teacher Collective Bargaining Agreement with additional per diem days as needed to meet compliance, evaluation, and case management responsibilities.
