Job Title: Van Driver

 

REPORTS TO:  Superintendent

SUPERVISES:  Students (and passengers) riding the school van 

 

Job Summary

The Van Driver is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, field trips, and other designated locations. This position requires a strong commitment to child safety, adherence to traffic laws, and effective communication with students, parents, and school staff.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students during transportation.
  • Assist students with boarding and exiting the van safely.
  • Treat students respectfully, maintain student discipline and comply with the school’s rules and disciplinary policy, reporting incidents to the administration.
  • Drive a school van according to established routes and schedules.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the van to identify and report any mechanical issues.
  • Monitors and performs routine van maintenance (fluid, tire pressure, etc.)
  • Maintain a clean and orderly van environment.
  • Keeps the necessary records, a maintenance log and completes all reports
  • Adhere to all state and local traffic laws and school district policies.
  • Reports all emergencies, injuries, damages, accidents and infractions to the administration.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Participate in required training and professional development.
  • Adheres to the Drug and Alcohol testing program and has an annual physical
  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned by the Principal

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

INCLUDING EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Valid driver's license with appropriate endorsements.
  • Has a positive attitude, is respectful and professional
  • Works well with students and adults
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Is organized and can be flexible
  • Experience working with children preferred.
  • Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor in stressful situations.
  • Has a clean driving record.
  • Adheres to all mandates outlined in CISD Policy EEAEAA Drug and Alcohol Testing of School Bus Drivers
  • Has current State of Maine Criminal History Records Check approval

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Salary and work year to be established by the School Committee

 

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Committee’s policy on the evaluation of staff.
