As long-term sub for an ESOL Teacher, you will deliver measurable results in designing, providing, and coordinating appropriate educational services for multilingual learners for approximately 12 weeks.   

 

Reports to: Special Services Director and Assistant Director of Special Services

 

Qualifications: Love what you do, the opportunity this position presents including collaborating with others to support the success of the district’s multilingual learners.  Proven professional with enthusiasm, passion, and demonstrated track record of success working with school-age English language learners.  The valid State of Maine Teaching Certificate Endorsement in English for Speakers of Other Languages is required. Must possess Maine Department of Education’s Criminal History Records Check (CHRC).  Effective communication skills are required to consult with the general education staff and work with families.  

 

Essential Responsibilities:

The Classroom Teacher for English Language Learners will be expected to:

  • Be familiar with and implement the district Lau plan
  • Be familiar with and trained to administer an ELP (English Language Proficiency) screener, as well as interpret results for service implementation
  • Be familiar with and trained to administer the ACCESS which would include setting the assessment schedule and coordinating with the IT department to ensure smooth implementation, informing teachers of results and what they mean
  • Developing and/or updating and implementing ILAPs (Individual Language Acquisition Plan), student profiles, etc.
  • Facilitating Language Acquisition Committee (LAC) meetings
  • Working with teachers to understand WIDA English Language Development (ELD) standards, sharing and implementing strategies for multilingual language learners (both push-in and pull-out settings) 
  • Coordinating with classroom teachers to ensure that multilingual language learners are moving toward the standards and striving towards proficiency in English  
  • Communicating with parents about English development and ACCESS scores
  • Coordinating interpreters and translation services, if necessary
  • Developing and delivering lesson plans, in a small group setting, that are consistent and coordinated with the district’s instructional program so that students meet and exceed learning targets and the requirements outlined in the state and federal law
  • Analyzing assessment and performance data to design appropriate instruction
  • Keeping current in the field of Multilingual Learners concerning best practice, research, and laws/regulations
  • Collaborating with outside agency personnel regarding student and/or family need as appropriate
  • Monitoring and analyzing data for the effectiveness of the individual learning plan
  • Be highly organized
  • Performing other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Special Services

Terms of Employment: Regular school year for professional teachers.  Salary to be established by the Board.


Evaluation:  Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Special Services Director and Assistant Director of Special Services, in accordance with the Board of School Directors Policy on evaluation of Support Services Personnel
