Description

Kennebunk Beach Improvement Association (www.kbia.net) is a 115 year old summer enrichment program for children located on Mother’s Beach in Kennebunk, Maine.

We are seeking a Nature Teacher to join our vibrant team for the Summer of 2025. Our program runs eight weeks, Monday to Friday, starting June 23rd and ends on August 15th. It is expected that teachers set up their room prior to the start of the program and are available for orientation the weekend of June 21st and 22nd for First Aid/CPR training and staff orientation/set up time. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching children of a variety of ages and a degree in either science or education. Current teaching certification is a plus.

The Nature Teacher is scheduled for 25 teaching hours per week. There are generally five sections per week (one each for children ranging from 4 to 5, 5 to 6, 6 to 8, 7 to 8, and 9 to 10).  The first class is at 9 AM and the last ends at 3 PM; each class is one hour long.  Children sign up for this class one week at a time – and thus, individual projects/themes are expected to be completed each week.  Topics are negotiable.  Past topics have included: tide pools, flowers, rocks, insects, and crustaceans.

KBIA is a relaxed work environment where decisions are made with the needs of children as the driving factor. Half price classes are available for children of teachers along with supervision while the parent is teaching. Paid prep time stipends are also including above hourly rate; stipend amount is based on number of hours worked in a week.

Please send cover letter, resume, and list of references to employment@kbia.net.  Applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible as the position will be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is identified.
