Valley Unified K-12 Curriculum Coordinator

Valley Unified School District (MSAD 27, MSAD 33, and Madawaska Schools)

Overview

The K-12 Curriculum Coordinator will oversee curricula design, implementation, and alignment across three districts. This position requires a dynamic and collaborative leader with expertise in curriculum development, proficiency-based instruction, federal grants management, and professional development facilitation. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of current educational trends, including the ethical integration of artificial intelligence in education, along with exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills. 

Primary Responsibilities


Curriculum Development and Alignment:
  • Lead vertical alignment planning and curriculum review across K-12 grade levels for the three school districts in coordination with Maine Department of Education timelines.
  • Facilitate developing and implementing standards-based curricula, ensuring alignment with state and national standards. 
  • Promote proficiency-based instruction, standards, and grading practices.
  • Guide adopting innovative educational tools, which may include AI, to enhance student learning experiences. At the same time, being responsive to individual classrooms and teachers to ensure such tools' ethical and responsible use. 
  • Provide a platform for sharing contact-level standards with the school community and the broader public. 
  • When needed, assist teachers in identifying a research-based curriculum that is aligned with learning objectives and standards determined by each district's content-level team.
Learning Management System Management:
  • Oversee and manage PowerTeacher Pro, ensuring effective utilization by educators and administrators.
  • Provide training and support for staff in navigating the Learning Management System (LMS) effectively.
Federal Grants Management:
  • Manage federal grants, including Title IIA and Title V, ensuring compliance with all regulations and efficient use of funds.
  • Complete needed documentation and reporting promptly to ensure compliance with grant requirements. 
  • Collaborate with district leaders to align grant funding with district goals and priorities that enhance student learning outcomes and support teachers' professional development.
Professional Development Coordination and Student-Centered Coaching:
  • Organize and lead professional development sessions for staff across the three districts. 
  • Coordinate with other school leaders to support and orientnew teachers in utilizing reporting tools and classroom management systems such as Google Classroom and/or Empower.
  • Design professional development opportunities aligned with district and school wide goals, current educational trends, and staff needs. 
  • Mentor Teachers to cultivate leadership skills and improve instructional practices.
  • Support a student-centered coaching model to enhance instructional practices and improve student outcomes, providing ongoing professional development that targets identified learning objectives based on depth of knowledge in correlation with learning progressions. 
  • Collaborate closely with teachers to analyze data, set goals, and refine instructional strategies. 
Leadership and Collaboration:
  • Foster strong relationships with district leaders, teachers, and staff to ensure effective communication and collaboration. 
  • Stay informed on educational trends, including the integration of AI, and guide on implementing these innovations in classroom settings.
  • Exhibit strong leadership by driving district-wide initiatives and promoting a culture of continuous improvement. 
  • Report to the Valley Unified Board regularly to relay information regarding the progress within each school district, including curriculum, data, and instruction. 
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
  • Master's degree in Education, Curriculum Development, or a related field with Maine Department of Education (DOE) Endoresement 078 (Curriculum Coordinator)
  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience with demonstrated leadership roles. 
  • Proven experience in applying for and managing grants (e.g., Title IIA, Title V) and learning management systems (PowerTeacher Pro or Empower).
  • Familiarity with Google Suite for Education, including relevant certifications.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Expertise in proficiency-based instruction, standards, and grading practices.
  • Strong understanding of student-centered coaching and instructional improvement strategies.
  • Familiarity with vertical alignment planning and curriculum review processes.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of educational trends, particularly in AI and its applications in teaching and learning.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to deliver effective professional development for educators.
  • Strong leadership abilities, with the capacity to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Be willing to be Certified in PowerTeacher Pro Certifications.
