The University of Maine invites applications for an academic-year, non-tenure-track Lecturer of Elementary & SecondaryEducation in the College of Education and Human Development’s School of Learning & Teaching beginning September 1, 2025.
Responsibilities: This position’s primary responsibilities are teaching classes related to Literacy, Social Studies Methods, andEducational Foundations. Teaching will be focused primarily or exclusively at the undergraduate level. The successful candidatewill also be expected to serve on College and University-wide committees.
The successful applicant will join a strong faculty that highly values collaboration and diversity. The successful candidate will havea strong background in literacy instructional methodology, writing instruction, digital literacy knowledge, and social studiesmethods. Experience teaching online as well as in-person is desirable. The successful candidate will be responsible for providinglocal, state, and national service to public schools and to the profession.
Preference will be given to candidates who can work collaboratively across disciplines to address the education of students livingin diverse environments and embrace the scholarship of engagement model, and have interest in online instruction.
About the College: The College of Education and Human Development is structured into three Schools. This current position fallsunder the School of Learning and Teaching. The programs within this School include: Elementary Education; SecondaryEducation; Curriculum, Assessment, &Instruction; Instructional Technology, Special Education; and a Ph.D. in Education.

Qualifications:
- The position requires either a terminal degree in Education or another relevant field by the date of hire or a master’s degree inEducation or another relevant field and at least one year of teaching experience in any relevant setting (e.g., PK-12, university,community).
- Well-qualified candidates will have public school teaching experience and show evidence of a commitment to working collegiallywith individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Preferred candidates will have evidence of some of the following attributes: 1) teaching effectiveness in a college or universitysetting; 2) current knowledge of literacy education practices; 3) current knowledge of social studies methods practices; 4)suitable experience and academic preparation for teaching foundational courses for preservice teachers, collaborating with localschools, and a commitment to teacher
