Description

The Ellsworth School Department is seeking a full-time K-12 Instructional Coach to join its faculty at the Ellsworth School Department. This position is available beginning in the 2025-2026 school year. 

Job Goals: To use instructional leadership skills to assist the Ellsworth School Department faculty in closing the achievement gap and accelerate learning for all students. To build teacher capacity through the implementation of effective instructional practices as well as collaborating with the Curriculum Director to identify and implement professional development for teachers and staff.

Terms of employment: Salary, benefits, and work year to be determined by the negotiated agreement between the ESD and the EEA.

Qualifications:

  1. Master’s Degree
  2. Maine Department of Education
  3. Minimum of five (5) years classroom teaching
  4. Experience in research-based instructional
  5. Experience providing or presenting professional development opportunities and a background in facilitation and leading adult learning groups (preferable).
  6. Knowledge and experience using a coaching model, e., Diane Sweeny’s student-centered coaching model (preferred).

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as content specialist to assist in the development and implementation of instructional plans that align to school department goals and curriculum.
  2. To work with instructional teams to design and provide professional development focused on delivery of written, taught and tested curriculum to increase student success and close performance gaps.
  1. Work with teachers to analyze student data, diagnose instructional needs, and identify research-based instructional strategies and resources to close achievement.
  1. Provide job-embedded professional development for teachers modeling engaging, standards-based teaching as needed.
  2. Collaborate with teachers to review and develop aligned curriculum components including assessments.
  3. Provide individual and/or group instructional coaching and mentoring to teachers to improve classroom instruction for all learners.
  4. Provide feedback that facilitates teacher reflection and
  5. Encourage and support the implementation of technology and innovative strategies in the classroom

Evaluation

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the School Committee’s policy on Evaluation of Teaching Faculty.
