Falmouth Public Schools is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our District as a full-time Assistant to the Director of Transportation and Facilities. This position supports the Director in insuring the efficient, safe and customer-focused operations of the school district’s transportation and facilities department.
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation and Facilities
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Oversee daily transportation operations, including student routes, athletic events, and field trips.
- Act as the primary dispatcher to handle calls and concerns from parents/caregivers, staff, and drivers.
- Manage transportation software by maintaining student data and routing information.
- Work collaboratively with drivers, parents, school administration, athletic department, and external stakeholders to meet transportation needs.
- Serve as a backup driver (van and/or bus) for routes and trips, if willing (training provided).
- Monitor and maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to transportation.
- Manage department payroll and leaves by reconciling bi-weekly timesheets, and submitting to Central Office.
- Monitor, schedule and maintain records of building and grounds safety inspections, which includes ensuring safety and OSHA compliance (e.g., HVAC filters, fire alarms, elevators, etc.).
- Coordinate training and professional development for transportation and facilities staff (annual trainings, policy signoffs, best practices training).
- Ensure material "Safety Data Sheets" are accurately maintained and accessible on the district website.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (minimum).
- State of Maine approved fingerprinting (CHRC) and background check.
- Knowledge of state, federal, and local transportation laws, codes, and maintenance requirements.
- Experience in transportation management, including routing and fleet maintenance.
- Excellent organizational, technological, and communication skills.
- Self-directed, team player
- Physical ability to lift 50 pounds and perform building/vehicle safety checks.
Position is full-time, full year (occasional evening and weekend on-call hours as needed) with excellent pay commensurate with experience.
