Title: Head Varsity Softball Coach (Reports to the Director of Athletics & Activities)
Terms of Employment: Spring Sports Season (March 24, 2025-June 21, 2025)
Stipend: $3,000 (Paid in 2 installments at the midpoint and end of season)
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Director of Athletics & Activities

Job Goal: To lead the MCI Softball team by helping each participating student-athlete to learn sport-specific skills and improved self-esteem, to develop an appreciation for the values of commitment, discipline and sportsmanship. To direct a school-sponsored girls softball team that exemplifies integrity, respect and discipline at all times. To work collaboratively with the baseball coach and team.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 20 years of age
- Must submit to a Background Check and have a valid driver's license
- Must have (or be able to obtain) current CPR/AED and Sports First Aid certifications
- Within year of hire, must complete NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching, NFHS Concussion in Sports, NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest, and NFHS Heat Illness Prevention online courses
- Must agree to comply with all MPA By-laws, Policies, and Coaching Code of Ethics
- Must have knowledge of the sport; successful coaching experience preferred
Responsibilities:
- Supports the mission, values and vision of Maine Central Institute and the athletics department
- Maintains an open and consistent line of communication with the Director of Athletics & Activities
- Models, encourages and demands discipline and sportsmanlike behaviors at all times; establishes standards for the student-athletes to follow
- Teaches the skills necessary for student-athletes to achieve success
- Plans and implements in-season practice plans
- Drive MCI vehicles for practices and competitions as necessary
- Recommends purchases of supplies, equipment and uniforms as necessary
- Maintains attendance records and all required paperwork as directed by the Director of Athletics & Activities
- Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted
- Establishes criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competitions in assigned sport and consistently enforces these standards in an equitable manner
- Immediately reports violations (or suspected violations) of team, school or MPA rules and policies to the Director of Athletics & Activities
- Carries out procedures for prevention, care and treatment of athletic injuries, including filing accident/injury reports with the Director of Athletics & Activities and the training staff; complies with the recommendations of the athletic training staff
- Communicates with parents, news media, booster groups and local youth organizations to ensure public relations and encourage support of the assigned sport
- Attends lectures, rules interpretations, clinics and professional development trainings to keep abreast of changes and methods that would improve assigned sport
- Attends all league-sponsored, sport-specific coaches meetings
- Maintains sport-specific inventory (equipment & uniforms); reports all equipment/uniform damage and/or loss to the Director of Athletics & Activities immediately; ensures that all inventory (equipment & uniforms) are returned to the Director of Athletics & Activities within one week of the end of the season
- Supports colleagues of the Maine Central Institute Athletics Department both in and out of season
- Assumes other such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Athletics & Activities
