Physical Education Instructor for Pre-K–8
The Center for Teaching and Learning, an independent school in Edgecomb, seeks applications for the position of part-time physical education teacher for a .4 position (two days per week).
Start date: September, 2025.
CTL’s physical education program has three objectives: to encourage participation in and enjoyment of activities that maintain and increase fitness; to increase student self-confidence as they engage in these activities; and to promote teamwork and cooperation.
CTL students have two 45-minute physical education classes per week. They participate in a variety of games, activities, and field experiences consistent with program goals. Class size is sixteen; the school has eighty students.
The school has a well-equipped gymnasium as well as an eight acre campus that contains a large playing field, a playground, hills for sledding and skiing, and a wooded ‘Outdoor Classroom’ with a stream and timber-frame barn. The PE teacher will be given support to develop their own curriculum utilizing both the indoor and outdoor spaces of the school. Additionally, the PE teacher organizes off-site activities such as swimming lessons, hiking, rock-climbing, cross-country skiing, or skating with support from the classroom teachers.
A successful candidate will possess:
- Experience coaching or teaching physical education to elementary and/or middle-school students
- Cooperative philosophy that embraces processing and social-emotional learning
- Ability to communicate effectively with parents, classroom teachers, and administrators
- Interest in being active outdoors
- Strong classroom management skills, flexibility, and a positive outlook
