This is a Monday through Friday, 40 hour per week, year-round position. Candidate will have a set shift but must be able to work a shift that meets the needs of the center.

Pay starts at $19.04 an hour. Right now, there is a monthly bonus offered through the Maine Early Childhood Workforce Salary Supplement Program. This is a tiered system and amount is determined by your current level on the Maine Roads to Quality Career Lattice.

General Position Description: The lead teacher is responsible for all aspects of running a preschool classroom including but not limited to developing and implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum and establishing and maintaining relationships with family members.

 

Educational Requirements:

Applicants must meet one of the criteria below:

  • Applicants must hold a minimum of level 5 on the Maine Roads to Quality Career Lattice
  • B.A./B.S. with 12 credits
  • A.A./A.S. in ECE
  • A 1 year credit certificate in ECE, social services, or related field with 2 years experience
  • A CDA or Maine state approved credential
  • If you are a college student graduating from an Early Childhood program or related degree program or if you are currently working on your CDA, we encourage you to apply. Candidates working towards completion will be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in an Early Education Setting with curriculum planning and supervision responsibilities.

Additional knowledge skills, certifications, and experience required:

· Knowledge of child development, positive guidance, and developmentally appropriate practice.

· Passion for the field of Early Childhood Education.

· Strong written/verbal communication and collaboration skills.

· Ability to work independently but also as a team player.

· Ability to think quickly, clearly, and remain calm during stressful times.

· Ability to maintain a professional attitude and work ethic at all times.

· Must be dependable and adaptable.

· Fingerprint Based Background Check as required by the Dept. of Health and Human Services and Childcare Licensing.

· Member of the Maine Roads to Quality Registry.

· Pediatric and Adult First Aid and CPR certified or willingness to obtain.

-Occasional flexibility to work overtime, if needed.

Physical Requirements:

· Sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, bending, walking, grasping, stretching, repetitive motions.

· Ability to sit on the floor and get up from a seated position.

· Ability to act quickly and efficiently in emergency situations.

· Ability to navigate different terrains outside in our play areas and actively move around the areas to supervise and the ability to be outside in temperatures of 15 degrees or above factoring in wind chill.

· Visual acuity to include color, depth perception, and field of vision.

· Sufficient auditory function to hear phones, pages, instruments or system alarms, and verbal commands.

· Light lifting (up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 20 lbs. frequently or 10 lbs. constantly)

· May be subject to sitting or standing for long periods of time.

· Must be able to climb stairs on order to access classrooms and other rooms in the building.

· Must be able to communicate verbally with others, to include phone and radio equipment.
