Jefferson Village School is a small, close-knit K-8 community school committed to providing a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for students. We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Head Custodian to ensure our campus is clean, safe, and well-maintained for our 200+ students and the staff that serve them.
Reports to: Building Principal
Qualifications: CHRC approval Maintain all necessary training requirements
Hours: 40 hours per week; typically 6am-2pm Payscale: available upon request
Major Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with the principal & facilities director on matters related to building and grounds.
- Implements and executes a routine cleaning schedule for various inspections.
- Works with the facilities director to maintain reports and inspections and makes them readily available upon request.
- Keeps a yearly inventory of custodial supplies.
- Collaborates with others with similar roles across the district:
- a. Discuss budget planning;
- b. Find ways to share resources if possible (people, tools, supplies) in order to save money;
- c. Share best practices in preventing issues and maintaining a highly functional facility;
- Serve as the building contact for all facilities and maintenance contracted services.
- Perform repairs when contracted services are not required.
- Prepares school for special events.
- Ability to use technology: send and receive emails, use of the photocopier, etc.
- Able to maintain and operate basic equipment: snowblower, weed wacker, pole saw, autoscrubber, floor stripper, vacuum cleaner, floor buffer, rug shampoo machine, and other equipment as deemed necessary to the job.
- Ensure that students and staff are learning and working in a safe environment:
- Walkways are free of snow, and ice is sanded and salted;
- Clean and disinfect sinks, bathrooms, tables, chairs, water fountains;
- Trash and recyclable removal inside and outside of the school;
- Mop, wash floors / clean and disinfect when accidents occur (bloody noses, broken glass, etc.);
- Keep soap, toilet paper and paper towel dispensers full;
- Sweep and mop kitchen after kitchen personnel is done for the day;
- Set up and break down for lunch;
- Bi-weekly checks of school grounds: trash cans, playground, and ball field inspection - grounds must be free from trash and unnecessary materials.
Working Conditions
- The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: lifting (50 lbs), carrying, pushing and/or pulling, using ladders when appropriate, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling in order to carry out the objectives of the position.
- Participates in and documents "certification of hazard equipment" training for proper use of equipment.
