With a start date of August 15, 2025, Kents Hill’s new English teacher will collaborate with English Department educators striving to instill a love and curiosity of literature and writing in students while advancing the Kents Hill curriculum and their own teaching practices.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The ideal candidate will be:
- passionate about teaching students and sharing their love for literature and writing
- dedicated to student-centered inquiry and teaching the writing process
- eager to contribute to the department’s ongoing development of its curriculum map rooted in knowledge, skills, character, and reflection
- willing to engage in a culture of collaboration and feedback
- committed to developing in all Kents Hill students the kinds of sophisticated problem-solving and critical-thinking strategies needed for success beyond secondary education
- authentically engage learners in problems that extend beyond the walls of the classroom
- culturally competent with skills for engaging with and learning from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences
- an educator passionate about the pursuit of their own personal growth through professional development
- committed to the boarding school student experience and excited to engage with students both inside and outside of the classroom. Typically, this includes:
- Living in a campus residence and participating in all aspects of residential life
- Advising a group of students
- Involvement in afternoon and extracurricular activities
QUALIFICATION/CERTIFICATIONS
- Experience teaching English at all levels, Introductory to Advanced Placement, in a high school setting
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, and colleagues
