PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Since its inception, English and Fine Arts have played a critical role in helping MSSM fulfill its mission of cultivating a new generation of well-rounded scholars who excel in their ability to develop, investigate, and communicate critical ideas. The heart of the first-year EFA experience is the Composition program, which provides students with the opportunity to study nonfiction prose selections, as they deepen their awareness of rhetorical structure and the workings of the English language. As advanced writers and thinkers, students choose from a wide range of creative and literary studies courses, such as African-American Literature, Indigenous Literature, American Authors Study, American Literature, and British Literature. Senior Tutorial, the EFA Department’s capstone research course, allows students to be pushed in a specific area of interest in which they, themselves, take part in the design.
