Location: Marcia Buker Elementary School, 28 High St. Richmond. Maine 04375

Position Summary: Elementary School Counselor, full time, beginning January 21, 2025.

The Richmond School Department is seeking an excellent school counselor to serve the students of our PK-5 elementary school. Marcia Buker is a small school of approximately 200 students, staffed by a highly dedicated and collaborative team of educators and support staff. 

Qualifications: 

State of Maine Maine Certification 075; conditional certification will be considered CHRC authorization required 

Goals of the School Counseling Program 

  1. To design and implement an exceptional school counseling program that provides a balance of direct instruction of curricula, individual and group sessions, and crisis response as needed.
  2. To teach students the skills and processes necessary for social and emotional health and well-being
  3. To foster enduring, trusting relationships with families and students by providing support to families, reducing barriers and facilitating access to learning and basic needs.
  4. To further the development and implementation of our MTSS System
  5. To assist in reducing truancy and chronic absenteeism among students
  6. To provide all students who have or are in need of a 504 plan with timely and appropriate accommodations

Performance responsibilities 

  1.  Provide a dynamic, engaging program of Tier I SEL instruction within classroom and small group contexts.
  2.  Providing crisis response and intervention for students when needed 3. Consult in a positive and collaborative manner with families, faculty, administrators, and other professionals regarding students 
  3.  Analyze student data to Identify and support school-wide needs related to social-emotional learning 
  4.  Implement/facilitate researched informed interventions in large group, small group, and individual settings 
  5.  Attend MTSS meetings and identify level of support needed for students
  6.  Identify and develop accommodations and resources for students and teachers and assist in drafting and implementing individual behavior plans
  7.  Prepare and follow up on referrals to outside agencies 
  8.  Engage in restorative work with students, teachers, and classrooms 10. Develop and facilitate professional development for staff as needed 
  9.  Serve as Attendance Coordinator for MBES 
  10.  Work with families of students at risk of truancy and chronic absenteeism in a supportive and collaborative manner to improve attendance 
  11.  Serve as 504 Plan Case Manager for MBES 

Salary: Based on experience per the RSD Teacher Collective Bargaining Agreement
