Part-Time Grounds Keeper
The Sanford School Department is seeking a reliable and hardworking individual for a part-time seasonal grounds position. This role is responsible for maintaining the grounds and landscaping at our school properties throughout the spring, summer, and fall months. With potential to possibly work some weekend/evening hours. Competitive hourly rate based on experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lawn mowing and trimming
- Weed whacking and edging
- Parking lot striping and maintenance
- Grounds repair and landscaping tasks (mulching, pruning, planting, etc.)
- Debris and litter removal from grounds
- Operating grounds keeping equipment (mowers, weed trimmers, etc.)
- Maintaining cleanliness of grounds keeping equipment and storage areas
Qualifications:
- Ability to operate grounds keeping equipment safely
- Physical ability to perform manual labor tasks involving bending, lifting, etc.
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail
Minimum Requirements:
- Previous grounds experience preferred
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Current Maine CHRC (fingerprinting) or ability to obtain
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required
- Pass a criminal back ground check and pre-employment physical
- Ability to work alone and/or part of a team
- Ability to climb and work from a ladder
- Flexibility to meet the needs of the district (i.e. hours, locations, duties, etc.)
- Physical abilities - able to work on your feet for several hours a day and lift up to 50lbs
- Personal qualities - dependable, honest, enthusiastic, approachable, self-motivated
- Professional qualities - detail-oriented, self-directed and able to communicate effectively
- Must be 18 years or older to apply
- Hold a valid driver’s license & clean driving record
Physical Abilities and Working Conditions:
- Hearing: Ability to tolerate exposure to noisy conditions.
- Environmental Requirements: High dust, dirt environment. Regular exposure to moving machinery and/or vehicles. Regular exposure to weather including heat, cold, dampness and/or humidity.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal or basic written instructions. Ability to learn and apply safety procedures and standards.
