Job Title: Elementary School Guidance Counselor for 2025-2026 School Year
Job Description: To support students to overcome problems that interfere with educational, social and emotional well being and to assist them in making positive changes that hold promise for their future
Hours: Full Time, School Year Calendar (beginning August 2025)
Job Location: Hussey Elementary School
Qualifications: Master’s degree in counseling or related field, Guidance Counselor Certification (075) Maine Department of Education, Prior experience preferred.
Performance Responsibilites:
- Prepare materials and lessons for class activities
- Be available to students and observant of their behaviors and demeanor in order to provide counseling that will enable each student to increase personal growth, self-understanding and maturity
- Keep current with developments in the field by reading current literature, participating in professional organizations, coursework, and conferences
- Meet with students individually and in groups, using various counseling methods
- Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects based on standards where applicable, best practices, and communicate those objectives to the students
- Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, specialist, and administrators in order to assist with/improve students' behavior and academic issues
- Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress and to determine their priorities for their children
- Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations
- Attend staff meetings, professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops and serve on committees in order to maintain and improve professional competence and involvement
- Serve as liaison between the school and outside agencies such as DHHS and the court system
- Acquaint students with decision-making resources
- Support the administration of school wide testing programs
- Collaborate with colleagues to address counseling and research issues
- Participate in Individual Education Plan Team meetings and 504 Accomodation Plan Team meetings
- Help establish and build a positive school climate
- Perform all other related duties as assigned by the principal
