FRYEBURG ACADEMY

Up to Full-time Aviation and Technology Instructor  (Anticipated 2025-26 School Year)

 

Purpose

Fryeburg Academy, a 700-student day and boarding high school in Western Maine and the Mount Washington Valley, seeks an innovative aviation teacher beginning late August 2025. This position can be full- or part-time, and involves teaching up to five periods. Three of these periods will be aviation programming; up to two additional periods may be technology courses, which will be developed jointly with the instructor. The last three weeks of each school year are a stand-alone period called May Term during which teachers offer non-traditional classes that focus on experiential learning or using knowledge in new contexts.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the AOPA “You Can Fly” curriculum
  • Make students aware of the wide range of job opportunities in the aviation industry
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with local, related industries and aviation foundations and supporters
  • Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, and papers; compile, administer, and grade examinations and assessments
  • Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions
  • Keep current with developments in the field by reading literature, conducting program advisory meetings, and participating in professional organizations, coursework and conferences
  • Collaborate with colleagues
  • Participate in school and community events
  • Understand differentiated instruction and adhere to IEPs
  • Develop additional Technology course(s) with the Director of Studies and the chair of the Technology, Technical Arts and the Trades  department 
  • If teaching 4 or more periods:
    • serve on a residential duty team or equivalent
    • serve as an advisor for a group of 12-14 students for their four years of high school

Qualifying Education and Experience

  • Minimum of five years successful experience in an aviation-related field 
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Knowledge of current aviation industry and training practices
  • The enthusiastic ability to work with students from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, and with a diverse range of academic interests and skills
  • All Fryeburg Academy employees are subject to Maine Dept. of Education Criminal History Record Check.
