Title: Entry Level Transportation Mechanic - RSU#57
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in preventive maintenance and mechanical repair of district vehicles, both gasoline and diesel, and automatic transmissions
- Valid State of Maine Class B & C Vehicle Inspection License or the ability to obtain these licenses within twelve months of hire date.
- Ability to communicate and cooperate with bus and van drivers, community and school personnel
Reports to: Director of Transportation
Job Goal: Perform preventative maintenance, inspect and make mechanical repairs on all district vehicles. Work alongside other mechanic(s) and communicate with office staff on status of vehicles as statuses change.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Performs diagnostics and repair work on district equipment
- Assists in maintaining current inventory of parts, supplies, and equipment
- Performs routine maintenance and preventive care of vehicles and equipment
- Assists in the purchase of parts and supplies and the keeping of records and inventories
- Promotes high standards and safety, organization of work space, cleanliness methods in all work connected areas
- Assists drivers in preparing vehicles for operation
- Performs as substitute driver when necessary
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board of Education policies
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. During the winter months, assist with snow removal within the maintenance garage complex. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, climb stairs, lift (ranging from 25-75 lbs. depending on student size), bend, pull, push, walk, kneel, crouch, and perform other physical tasks that may be required from time to time.
Terms of Employment: Hourly, work year and working conditions to be established by the RSU 57 School Board.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluations.
