ADULT EDUCATION ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE INSTRUCTOR | ACADEMIC YEAR: 20 HOURS PER WEEK

Job Description

MMRACE is a public adult education program serving adults in the Greater Waterville area (Waterville, Winslow, Vassalboro, Oakland, Belgrade, China, Sidney, and Rome) towards their academic and career-related goals. We have sites in two communities within our service region: Waterville and Oakland. Annually, we serve over 300 individuals throughout our academic programs, enroll over 1400 community members for enrichment classes, and partner with over 20 community organizations. This position will be assigned to the Waterville site.

?     HiSET – High School Equivalency Test (formerly GED)

?     Community Enrichment classes

?     Preparing for College as an Adult

?     English as a Second Language (ESOL) classes

?     Resource & Career Navigation

?     High School Diploma completion

?     Workforce Preparation & Training

Position Schedule:

  • 20 hours per week | 11 instructional hours + 9 preparation hours

Mondays 2:30pm – 5:30pm, Tuesdays 2:30pm – 5:30pm, Wednesdays 3:00pm – 4:00pm, Thursdays 4:30pm – 7:30pm, Fridays 10:00am – 11:00am + 9 prep hours weekly

 

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Prepare skill-level appropriate materials for learners to improve their English acquisition language, speaking, writing, and reading skills.
  • Execute lessons at the appropriate level(s) for the learners in the class.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
  • When appropriate, invite guests to come in and speak to the class on their role in the community.
  • Use technology and other equipment and materials to supplement activities and lessons.
  • Create instructional plans to match student ability and learning styles.
  • Provide individual and group instruction to meet the needs of students.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Conditional or Professional certification endorsement in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Teacher (660) from the MDOE.
  • Master’s degree in TESOL, preferred
  • Passion for Adult Education
  • Impeccable organizational & interpersonal skills
  • Certified as a CASAS & HiSET Proctor and/or Test Center Supervisor
  • Experience working with adult learners
