Special Education Teacher
Academy Day Treatment Program
MSAD#41 has an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled Special Education Teacher to work with our amazing team. MSAD #41 is located in beautiful Piscataquis County and has a student population of approximately 600 students over three schools: Milo Elementary School (PK-2), Brownville Elementary School (3-4), and Penquis Valley Middle High School (5-12). This position is open immediately. Children served in our Academy Program are working on communication, skill development, milieu-based therapy, and enriched activity-based programming. We work with children who have an array of diagnoses such as autism and intellectual disabilities. Help guide children and their families through the hurdles of everyday life, all while making a real, lasting impact in your community.
A successful candidate will:
- Provide specially designed instruction to students with Individual Education Plans within a day treatment setting.
- Collaborate and coordinate the necessary supports as students transition back to their less restrictive mainstream academic setting.
- Engage in consultation and collaboration with general education teachers regarding students’ educational needs, accommodations and modifications is ongoing.
- Provide support and direction for immediate support staff within the program.
Qualification requirements:
Preference will be given to candidates who are Safety Care certified, have a strong background in special education and who are familiar with best practices in individualized day treatment behavioral instruction. The ability to work collaboratively as part of a professional team, form and maintain therapeutic relationships, facilitate a therapeutic learning environment, establish and maintain classroom management practices, and think critically is essential. Applicants must hold Teacher of Children with Disabilities (282) Certification and current CHRC authorization through the State of Maine Department of Education.
