TheKidsPeace Old Town School is a special purpose private school serving youth ages 3-22 with developmental disabilities and emotional disorders.

Job Summary: As a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) at KidsPeace, you will play a crucial role in delivering therapeutic services, collaborating with educational staff, and supporting students with autism and other behavioral issues. You will be responsible for providing group and individual therapy, contributing to progress reports, and ensuring that all services comply with relevant accrediting and licensing requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Therapeutic Services: Provide group and individual therapy as outlined in students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTS). Document progress on IEPs quarterly and maintain detailed therapy progress notes.
  • Classroom Collaboration: Work closely with educational staff to ensure effective carry-over of therapeutic strategies within the classroom setting.
  • Progress Reporting: Prepare and submit progress reports every 90 days, aligning with the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team (ITT) process. Ensure reports are included in the student’s Treatment Plan one week prior to the student’s team meeting.
  • In-Service Training: Conduct in-service education and training sessions for staff members upon request.
  • Meeting Participation: Attend IEP and ITT meetings as requested to provide insights and updates on student progress.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited occupational therapy assistant program.
  • State of Maine License to practice as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant.
  • Experience working with children ages 3-21 with autism and/or other behavioral issues preferred.
  • Commitment to staying current with research in the field, including attaining the required annual Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
  • Must pass all required clearances as stipulated by the Department of Education, DHHS, and OCFS.
