Physical Therapist
working for Jefferson School Dept @ Erskine Academy for the 2025-26 School year
Hourly (approximately 2-4 hours monthly) via an hourly contract. The Physical Therapist will evaluate and provide treatment services to teenagers in high school in China, Maine for the 2025-26 school year. The therapist, a member of the IEP team, evaluates and provides services to eligible children and ensures that services meet the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Educational Act (IDEA) of 2004 as set forth in the Maine Department of Education Regulations Chapter 101.
Qualifications:
- Certificate of Clinical Competence
- State of Maine licensing in Physical Therapy
- Successful background, criminal records, fingerprinting and reference check.

Responsibilities:
Direct & Consultative Therapy: The physical therapist works as a part of a team of colleagues to evaluate and provide treatment services to children. The therapist, a member of the Individual Education Plan team, evaluates, and provides services to eligible children in grades K through Grade 8 and ensures that services meet the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA) of 2004 as set forth in the Maine Department of Education Regulations Chapter 101.
Assessment & Referral: Includes establishing rapport with children served and provides services in the child's natural environment or Least Restrictive Environment setting, as ordered by the Individual Education Plan team. The physical therapist gathers and reviews documentation specific to the child's developmental history and conducts interviews with parents to obtain when specific to the child's required developmental history and selects and administers assessment and other evaluation materials that are not discriminatory as ordered by the Individual Education Plan team. Determines the child's level of functioning and expresses that in a summary of evaluation results and diagnostic impressions in an evaluation report provided for the Individual Education Plan team.
Consultation: The physical therapist shares knowledge and responsibility for programs with educational staff in programs designed to assist the development of underlying skills that are prerequisites for academic learning and vocational training.
Parent Communication: The physical therapist ensures that parents receive accurate explanations to their questions promptly. The physical therapist ensures that parents receive accurate explanations of the results of the child's assessment.
