TEACHER - 3RD GRADE - LINE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
POSITION SUMMARY: Ensure that all students develop the knowledge, skills, behaviors, and attitudes to become successful individuals and citizens. Utilize their knowledge and skills to prepare effectively for instruction and other student services, deliver appropriate instruction and service to students, evaluate student progress, manage student behaviors with effective classroom strategies, and apply themselves to their own professional growth.
REPORTS TO: The Building Principal and/or the Assistant Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in a specific area of teaching.
- A valid State of Maine certificate.
- Specific preparation to teach at the appropriate level.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of students in a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of students.
- Guides the learning process towards the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons and projects.
- Creates a classroom environment that encourages pupil participation and is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
- Employs instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
- Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
- Assesses the learning difficulties of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
- Strives to improve professionally as an educator.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect the students, equipment, materials, funds, and facilities.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
- Organizes classes and work so that substitute teachers can function with the minimum loss of learning for students.
- Uses community resources when available.
- Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary, work year, and working conditions to be established by the RSU 57 School Board.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation.
