Job Summary: Performs as an instructor in a regular classroom setting. Works closely with the Academic Instructors to give direction to students for obtaining their High School Diplomas and/or High School Equivelancy (HSD/HSE)

Duties/Responsibilities: Promotes a positive and desirable atmosphere within the classroom setting to ensure maximum student motivation. Maintains a high degree of discipline within the classroom setting in order to ensure maximum learning and high degree of student/instructor rapport. Utilizes all possible curriculum resources available. Responsible for adequate classroom support, including classroom management and accommodations. Maintains all student records related to High School Equivalency/High School Diploma testing and progress along with disability records for non-health accommodations. Assists students and staff with the completion of all necessary forms related to High School Equivalency/High School Diploma education. Monitors student attendance, progress and performance while in educational programming, supports instructor/s as needed. Meets with students to conduct accommodations reviews as required by Policy & Requirement Handbook (PRH). Responds to audits as needed. Conducts individual and group remediation sessions with assigned students regarding educational and personal development. Provide a weekly status report to the academic manager on status of the High School Equivalency/High School Diploma/Disability programs. Conduct student folder reviews during Reasonable Accomodation Committee meetings. After initial student accommodation meeting, the Disability Coordinator will enter student accommodations into system. will aslo complete a disability presentation to all students in Career Ppreparation Period classroom . Assess and make recommendation student awards as approved within the Centers student incentive plan. Assists in the completion of all necessary Job Corps forms and entering case notes at least once a month for each student assigned. Responsible for following security measures to ensure that equipment, curriculum, tests, and supplies are secured and cared for. Monitors and reviews daily each student’s progress to ensure students are making adequate progress and performing their own work. Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field, experience working with special needs students and/or employees
Preferred: One year in a teaching capacity with disadvantaged youth, State teaching certification.
Knowledge: Knowledge of required subject area, excellent communication skills, both oral and written, excellent organizational skills, must obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification, ability to motivate and inspire students, ability to effectively relate to student population.
