Lincoln Academy, in Newcastle, Maine has an opening for a Library Support Specialist beginning in the 2025-26 school year. 


The Library Support Specialist will work closely with the Director of Library Services to support the daily operations of a vibrant and dynamic school library program. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about creating an inclusive and welcoming space for students, with a strong focus on supporting teen learners. The Library Support Specialist will help foster an engaging, flexible library environment while promoting reading, information literacy, and academic success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Library Operations: Assist the Director of Library Services in maintaining a library program that meets student needs and supports instructional goals.
  • Create a Positive Environment: Help cultivate a library space that is welcoming, flexible, and thrives as a hub for student learning and collaboration.
  • Engage with Students: Work with individuals and small groups of students to support their academic, social, and emotional well-being, fostering success at school.
  • Promote Literacy: Encourage reading and information literacy by introducing students to a variety of materials and fostering a culture of curiosity across disciplines.
  • Mentorship: Provide one-on-one coaching and mentorship to students, guiding them in their academic and personal growth.
  • Library Maintenance: Assist with circulation duties, book processing, shelving, and overall collection management.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Minimum of 2 years of post-secondary training, preferably in Information and Library Services or an educator preparation program.
  • Experience with Teen Learners: A strong interest and aptitude for working with high school students in a school library setting.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work positively and diplomatically with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
  • Literacy & Library Knowledge: Familiarity with or eagerness to learn about young adult literature, professional library techniques, systems, and tools.
  • Technology Savvy: Comfortable with technology and committed to upgrading skills as needed to support the library's functions.
