Assistant Director of Special Services- Grades 6-12

POSITION SUMMARY: To support the administration, coordination and supervision of RSU 57 Special Education services and programming.
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree in Special Education.
- A minimum of five years of educational experience.
- Eligible for State of Maine 035 Assistant Director of Special Education or 030 Director of Special Education Certification.
- Evidence of ability to provide educational and administrative leadership.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Contributes to the development of the total school philosophy of education as detailed in RSU 57s Strategic Plan.
- Participates in IEP team meetings.
- Collaborates with school teams including; IEP teams, Instructional Support Network, Multi Tiered Systems of Supports
- Monitors compliance of special education paperwork.
- Evaluates on an ongoing basis for 6-12 Special Education Programming including Functional Life Skills, Day Treatment and Work Experience Program
- Collaborates in establishing guidelines for 6-12 special education curriculum to support alignment with general education curriculum and meet student needs.
- Provides case management to students in grades 6-12 who attend out of district placements.
- Assists with collecting Special Education Data.
- Assists with teacher and educational technician supervision and evaluation
- Monitors staff training needs and facilitates staff training when appropriate.
- Provides guidance to special education personnel, general education personnel and administration regarding special education topics.
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities determined by the Director of Special Services.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary, work year and working conditions to be established by the RSU 57 School Board.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation.
