The Western Maine Regional Program for Children with Exceptionalities (WMRPCE) is a public regional special education program seeking one (2) dynamic, collaborative, and creative special education teacher to join our Day Treatment program. Students in our program have a wide variety of academic and functional needs that must be addressed in ways that foster student development and growth. A successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, a willingness to seek nontraditional solutions to issues as they arise, an ability to build positive relationships with students and Team members, ability to teach academic content, and a willingness to collaborate with parents, community members, special educators, and administrators as appropriate. Experience working with students in a positive behavioral setting is preferred but not required. Experience with utilizing a Makerspace (i.e. 3D printers, Cricuts, building tools, etc.) preferred but not required, we will train you!
Responsibilities will include:
- Demonstrate the competence and flexibility necessary to program for students with emotional, social, and behavioral needs
- Create and deliver specially designed instruction for grades 7-12 academic content areas
- Create and deliver specially designed instruction in social skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Collaborate with the program staff in order to develop programmatic supports
- Create classroom structures that support student needs
- Collect and utilize academic and functional data to inform interventions and instruction
- Supervise educational technicians
- Write an accurate IEP within an identified time frame
- Complete special education documentation in accordance with Department expectations, as well as state and federal laws and regulations
