SCHOOL LIBRARY MEDIA/TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree (in an educational, technology, or library-related field preferred)
Maine Department of Education Computer Technology Endorsement K-12 (680) and/or
Maine Library/Media Specialist Endorsement (071) and/or
General Elementary Endorsement K-8 (020)
Strong computer skills
Excellent communication skills
Strong organizational skills
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Maine Library/Media Specialist Certificate (071) preferred
Prior experience working in a school or library or technology area.
Prior experience working with computers and other technology.
Knowledge of child development and the learning needs of children and adults.
Familiarity with children’s and young adult literature.
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
Ability to multitask.
Ability to maintain effective and appropriate relationships with students, parents and all school department staff.
Broad working knowledge of pedagogical practice for grades PreK – 8.
Demonstrated versatility and proficiency in educational technology and media applications.
Knowledge of instructional team membership roles and responsibilities, and communication skills necessary to support collaborative teaching and on-going, personalized professional development.
Knowledge of library media and technology skills curriculum.
REPORTS TO: Under the general supervision of the building administrator with additional supervision by the Technology Director.
JOB GOAL: Coordinates activities to ensure smooth operation of the learning commons and the school’s technology. Assists the Principal and staff by ensuring that school procedures and routines are implemented to aide in the smooth and responsive operation of the school.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate with classroom teachers and other specialists to develop and deliver assignments that support standards-based, personalized learning that is instructionally sound and that includes key critical thinking, content, and habits of mind through the impactful integration of educational technology.
Keep teachers and students abreast of emerging educational technology and its applications to learning.
Supervise para-professional services assigned to the learning commons.
Collaborate with the administration to realistically assess ongoing professional development needs related to the impactful applications for educational technology; Design and deliver group and personalized professional development as needed.
Identify and respond efficiently to technology maintenance issues in the learning commons and school-wide.
Create and maintain an inviting, safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment that fosters curiosity, inquiry, and lifelong learning, ensuring that the space that is suitable for a variety of purposes, including small group and large group activities and presentations.
Develop and maintain an up-to-date, culturally diverse collection of print and non-print resources appropriate to the curriculum, the learners, the teaching styles, the instructional strategies used, and that reflect students’ interests.
Promote the use of a variety of multimedia production and learning product strategies/outcomes to support creative, personalized, and differentiated learning.
Promote academic engagement in traditional and innovative ways such as social media, digital media, and print that serve to personalize and differentiate learning.
Collaboratively supports the effective integration of the American Association of School Librarian’s learning standards, Common Core/MLR standards that relate to technology, International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards, and other applicable standards through the use of coaching and cooperative teaching methods.
Participate in professional growth activities including ACTEM and other professional development opportunities as pre-approved by the school principal.
Provide leadership and expertise in the selection, acquisition, and organization of information resources and technologies in all formats and the subsequent evaluation of effectiveness.
Ensure equitable and ethical use of information by teaching and modeling digital citizenship and responsibility.
Collaborate with the school principal to ensure that appropriate digital information and resources are available via the school's web site and that the schools web site remains up-to-date.
Be knowledgeable about digital tools and programs purchased by RSU 12 and help teachers maximize their effective utilization (Ex; Lexia, MobyMax, Dreambox, etc.).
Be knowledgeable about curriculum purchased and adopted within RSU 12, and look for ways to integrate information literacy and technology skills to effectively support personalized and differentiated teaching and learning.
Performs such other related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
