Acton Elementary School seeks highly energetic and positive educators to join our awesome Pre-K through Grade 8 school.  Acton is a growing rural Maine town in the foothills of the White Mountains.  The Acton School Department is experiencing an increase in student population due to the town’s location, excellent school, lakes, natural beauty, and easy commute to Portland, Portsmouth, and Boston.

Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team for the FY 2024/2025 School Year. The ideal candidate will have experience working with students with diverse learning needs and will be committed to providing high-quality education in an inclusive classroom environment.

Responsibilities:

Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with special needs for grades 5 - 8.

  • Adapt classroom materials and teaching methods to meet each student's unique learning styles and abilities.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and other staff members to ensure students receive appropriate support and accommodations.
  • Assess students’ progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student achievement and behavior.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to provide updates on student progress and collaborate on strategies for supporting learning at home.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in special education.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Valid teaching certification in Special Education.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities, including knowledge of various learning disabilities, behavioral disorders, and developmental delays.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents/guardians, and outside agencies.
  • Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude toward working with diverse student populations.
  • Commitment to advocating for the educational rights and needs of students with disabilities.
