Founded in 1989 by Mark Hammond, our clinics are located in Portland and Sanford, Maine. We also provide contracted services in public schools and special purpose private schools throughout the state. Position Summary:

The Clinical Director of Speech-Language Pathology oversees the clinical operations and strategic direction of the speech-language pathology department. This role includes managing a team of speech-language pathologists (SLPs), managing budgets and financial stability of the department, ensuring high standards of care, developing treatment protocols, and driving initiatives to improve patient outcomes. The Clinical Director works collaboratively with other healthcare professionals and administration to enhance the quality and efficiency of services provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership and Management:
    • Provide leadership and direction to the speech-language pathology department.
    • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the performance of SLPs and support staff.
    • Facilitate professional development opportunities and continuing education for team members.
  2. Clinical Oversight:
    • Develop and implement clinical protocols, policies, and procedures.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and best practices in speech-language pathology.
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of clinical programs and services.
  3. Patient Care:
    • Oversee the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning for patients with speech, language, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and voice disorders.
    • Manage complex or high-risk cases as needed.
    • Promote evidence-based practice and innovative treatment approaches.
  4. Program Development:
    • Identify opportunities for program growth and improvement.
    • Lead the development and implementation of new services and initiatives.
    • Collaborate with other departments and community organizations to expand service reach and impact.
    • Create relationships with local and national Universities to recruit new staff.
  5. Quality Assurance:
    • Implement quality assurance and performance improvement programs.
    • Collect and analyze data on patient outcomes and satisfaction.
    • Address and resolve any clinical issues or concerns promptly.
  6. Administration:
    • Prepare and manage the departmental budget.
    • Oversee scheduling and resource allocation.
    • Ensure accurate and timely documentation and reporting.
  7. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Foster effective communication within the department and with other healthcare professionals.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case reviews.
    • Represent the department in management team meetings.
  8. Research and Education:
    • Stay current with advancements in the field of speech-language pathology.
    • Develop and deliver educational programs for staff, patients, and the community.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Certification of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • State licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Strong clinical skills in assessment and intervention for a variety of speech and language disorders.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in program development and management.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Advanced training in Augmentative and Alternative Communication a plus.

Work Environment:

  • This position may require some travel between different client and clinic locations.
  • The role involves both direct patient care and administrative responsibilities.
  • Flexibility in work hours may be necessary to meet the needs of the department.
