SPECIAL EDUCATION SOCIAL WORKER
POSITION SUMMARY: The social worker will provide ongoing direct services to students and consultations to special education teachers to address identified students’ social, emotional, and behavioral needs. The position requires excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team, including teachers, educational technicians, administration and families.
REPORTS TO: Director and Assistant Director of Special Education and Building Administration
QUALIFICATIONS

Masters Degree in Social Work
-
Licensing at the LMSW level with the expectation that the employee will work toward licensure at the independent level.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides social work services to individual students and/or small groups to address personal, social and emotional barriers to educational and social progress.

Provides social work services to families to increase parents’ understanding, encourage constructive participation in addressing their child’s challenges, and support access to appropriate community resources.

Consults and collaborates with other school personnel to support student progress on IEP goals.

Refers families and students to other professionals in the district as well as various out-of school agencies and other professionals.

Writes goals for students’ Individual Education Programs (IEPs), collects data on goal progress and participates in IEP meetings.

Maintains appropriate case records and files.

Serves as liaison between school and collateral professionals as necessary.

Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities that may be assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary, work year, and working conditions to be established by the RSU 57 School Board.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation.
