School Counselor (Long Term Sub Position)

South Portland High School is currently searching for a temporary School Counselor.

SUMMARY: To provide a developmental, comprehensive school guidance curriculum designed to help all students achieve academic success, plan for their future careers and aspire to post-secondary education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Implement the district's comprehensive school counseling curriculum
• Coordinate 504 plans
• Communicate with guardians regarding student needs
• Facilitate communication between guardians, teachers and students
• Consult with special education and regular education staff regarding student issues
• Refer families to appropriate supports as needed
• Work with administrators to communicate the school and district vision to parents and community
• Coordinate state, college and career assessments as needed
• Maintain and interpret cumulative records
• Assist students in course and subject selection, providing the guidance to ensure that their academic plan will provide them with future opportunities to access courses, careers and/orcollege
• Provide crisis intervention services to students during school hours as needed
• Provide information to students and guardians about college and career planning and financial assistance as appropriate
• Perform such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as the Principal may assign.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Master’s degree in Counseling
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES:
Maine Guidance Counselor certification from the Maine Department of Education
