Job Description:
Pond Cove is a large elementary school with 550 students in grades K-4 and 100 staff. We are a high-performing school with expectations of excellence and rigor in all areas of an educator's professional practice. We are seeking a positive, hard-working, and effective special educator with high standards for themselves and others.
The successful candidate will be a part of a team of four special education teachers, along with the following special education team members:
- 2 Speech and Language Pathologists
- 1 Occupational Therapist
- 1 Physical Therapist
- 1 Elementary Academic Evaluator
- 2 School Social Workers
- 1 District BCBA
- 1 District Psychologist
This role includes planning, designing, and delivering engaging and hands-on lessons and implementing assessments to measure student growth and progress toward IEP goals. The position includes covering student recesses and/or lunches and collaborating with a large number of colleagues including school social workers, extended learning coaches, the students services director, and building principals.
Certification Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Maine special education teacher certification (282)
- Maine's Criminal History Record Check (CHRC)
Professional Qualifications:
- Ability to collect and analyze data and use it to inform and deliver differentiated instruction
- Models nondiscriminatory practices
- Knowledgeable about special education law and legal responsibilities
- Preferred experience/training in the following:
- Explicit Systematic Instruction (e.g., SPIRE, Wilson, Fundations, Linda Mood-Bell, etc.)
- Responsive Classroom
- Positive Behavioral Supports and Interventions
- Provide students with engaging, hands-on, and high-interest intervention lessons
- Be able to pivot quickly when changes happen (e.g., schedule changes, support and attend school assemblies and events, fulfill coverage needs, etc.)
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

- A solid knowledge base of and ability to deliver rigorous and highly effective instruction and assessments across all curriculum areas
- The ability to establish clear behavior expectations and predictable routines that foster a safe social-emotional and physical learning environment

- An awareness of school-wide needs and expectations and a willingness to embrace shared responsibility, including fulfilling duties and attending meetings outside of the school day
- Successful experience teaching students with multiple exceptionalities and knowledge of best practices around behavior management is preferred
