High School Special Education ELA Teacher
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education ELA Teacher to join our high school team. The ideal candidate will provide specialized instruction in English Language Arts to students with diverse learning needs and disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with special needs
- Design and deliver engaging ELA lessons adapted to meet individual student needs
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and differentiated instruction
- Assess student progress and maintain accurate records
- Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders
- Participate in IEP meetings and provide input on student goals and accommodations
- Stay current with best practices in special education and ELA instruction
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education, English, or related field (Master's preferred)
- Valid state teaching license with endorsements in Special Education and English/Language Arts
- Experience teaching high school students with diverse learning needs
- Strong knowledge of ELA curriculum and instructional strategies
- Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive equipment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience, empathy, and a passion for working with students with special needs
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with co-teaching models
- Knowledge of transition planning for students with disabilities
- Proficiency in using educational technology and learning management systems
