What you'll do:

  • Inspire and lead: Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to the Upward Bound program, motivating staff and participants alike.
  • Build bridges: Cultivate strong relationships with local high schools, community partners, and families.
  • Champion success: Oversee the development and implementation of innovative programs and activities that prepare students for college and beyond.
  • Manage and empower: Effectively manage the program budget, personnel, and grant objectives, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • Make a difference: Witness firsthand the incredible growth and achievements of the students you empower.

This is a fiscal-year, soft-money funded position with a typical salary range of up to $60,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position includes a 10% employer contribution to the UMS retirement plan. Continued employment is contingent upon ongoing external funding and the operational needs of the university.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in school counseling, education, or other related disciplines.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in educational programming, including knowledge of adolescent development theory as it relates to low-income and first-generation students, or work in student services (i.e, teaching, mentoring, counseling)
  • A minimum of three (3) years of supervisory or management experience.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of budget management experience.
  • Valid driver’s license (in good standing, based on UMS standards). 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Management experience in a TRIO program.
  • Program evaluation and data analysis experience.
  • Academic curriculum development and educational assessment for grades 9-12.
